What helps you most during tough times?

As someone who deals with depression, I face a lot of what some people would call “tough times.” I have good days. I have bad days. And I have days when getting out of bed is too much.

Normally, I can feel the bad days coming. Normally, I can enjoy the good. But the worst days come out of nowhere.

I find that keeping in contact with people who are uplifting helps. Rather than isolating myself, reaching out to someone I know can talk me down, or help me work through it is the best thing I can do for myself.

When it comes to life overall, and not just dealing with mental illness, this still applies. Not isolating myself means I can be there for the people who matter most. I can reach out to them for help, and they can do the same for me.

And when life gets hard, times get tough, knowing someone I’ve helped is ready to return the favor is literally everything. Sometimes you just need people, and that’s okay.

It’s definitely important to be strong enough to take care of yourself. It’s important to handle life one minute at a time, and know how to get yourself through life.

But it’s also important to be willing to ask for help.
